The Pick
The Pick
From beverages, to staffing needs.
As a woman who ran businesses in my day.
A daughter, who went to school;
Now, she has grown and lives away.
Met a man who worked with a pick.
A “knock-around-guy”, he calls himself.
He drove a van, quit bookkeeping.
Even stocked goods on some retail shelf.
Seven piece sectional designed for me
I waited, three visits for to pick his place
Mocha Grey, with console, “Minimalist” soft.
I climb on the sofa in the adjoining space.
My daughter came to visit twice,
After, she did not care for him.
While she starts her second business.
That one is astute, eager and she is thin.
Been that way since her college,
sailing in an ocean of prospects
leading the cultural conversations.
Now, it's her opinion that matters
Even with my friends in console
I’m not allowed my own complications.
Reminded of his own children,
He turned to me smiling one night.
making these decisions when you are gone
Is what is probably filling them with fright.
