All In One Night

All In One Night

Off the back porch, some hole shallow a horse

Below are lights as night steals the day.

Where my neighbor lived appears a golf course.

I yell “help”, people return to their play.

To some unseen voice who asks what is wrong,

I curse, “Will no one help me with this steed?”

The voice repeats back, sharing its same song.

Was this trap for stallions brought on by greed?

Switch to a place, I’m given a tractor;

Will it pass a truck parked too near a wall?

Pick it up, carry it to a balcony.

Seems I can lift it, the weight’s not a factor.

The voice returns “mow the lawn” is the call!

“To save that crying colt from its agony.”
