LIU Admits NCAA Violations

 LIU Admits NCAA Violations

The NCAA is vacating team and individual records from programs that had ineligible athletes in that span, which is from the 2020–21 season through 2023–24. Titles from the 2024–25 and 2025–26 seasons were not impacted, including the Sharks’ recent NEC Tournament title in men’s basketball.

The NCAA acknowledged that the University worked collaboratively with NCAA enforcement staff throughout the review and cooperated fully with the process. As a result, the University agreed to a three-year period of probation, a $30,000 fine plus 3% of the budgets for the four highest-budgeted sport programs involved, a two-week prohibition on all recruiting activities during the first year of probation, public reprimand and censure, and the vacation of team and individual records due to any ineligible participation.

Statement from Director of Athletics Elliott Charles

"Long Island University identified these matters several years ago through its own compliance systems and promptly self-reported them to the NCAA, reflecting the University's strong culture of compliance and accountability. Since that time, LIU has further enhanced its compliance infrastructure with a team that brings decades of Division I experience, supported by comprehensive oversight and data systems designed to ensure accountability and adherence to NCAA standards.

This matter has no impact on current student-athletes, and all LIU athletic programs remain fully eligible for competition, including postseason play. LIU has a long-standing Division I history, and its student-athletes continue to compete with integrity in a well-managed and successful athletics environment."

Personal Speculation Here:

Seawanhaka (Brooklyn Campus) newspaper or The Tide/formerly The Pioneer (C.W. Post campus) newspaper. Don’t have anything-if you see something forward it on please. I am only speculating here, but since this was “self-reported” perhaps the university had some choice in when it was announced. Thus limited exposure on campus(es) and reducing the exposure around graduation.
